Sorry it's been so long since the last report.  Well, I finally bring good news
from the land of fly fishing Md!!  As if the entire world already didn't know...the
big girls are at the rips in force.  You will need Rio 7 or Rio Leviathan 500 or
greater to get down to these fish.  It is comforting to know that they are there
though!!!

There are fish to be had at the Baltimore power plants also.  This action just
started over the last week or so.  The first wave of big fish have yet to cross
the bay bridge in force.  The flats should go off the hook real soon.  The
water quality is actually very good.  Let's all keep our fingers crossed over the
next week..  Shad are staging in the James and Nottoway.  They'll make it to
the Potomac in the next few days and then Deer Creek within a week.  From
famine to feast my friends!!!!!  The is one stoked fly angler!!!!
2/21/05 A few hardy souls made it out more over Presidents Day Weekend.  I
tried a local river for perch on Saturday.  Well, between the line freezing on
every fifth cast and hiking through a mile of sticker bushes...we came up
empty.  I tried again on Monday with much better results.  Bass and pickerel
were less than eager but still available if you bonked them between the eyes
with your fly.  Brown stoneflies were coming off on every single piece of water
that we fished.

2/17/05  Well, A few of us managed to get out for some pickerel.  Think
moving water and swinging flies.  They are out there!!!
1/27/05 Lord help us...winter has set in with a vengeance.  We really were
lucky for the first part of it.  We are really paying some dues now.  As I type
this, it is 11 degrees with a solid 20 knot wind.  The temps this weekend may
get into the 40's.  There may be a trout or two that isn't frozen solid.  I'll report
back if I get a chance to harass them.
1/10/05  We have been blessed wit some very mild weather this winter so far.
New Years Day was near perfect early on.  Temps were in the 50's and the
sky was bright and blue.  Sadly, the creeks were still frozen.  Despite out best
attempts to break the ice ourselves, we just couldn't get back to the fish.  For
what it's worth, a 17ft Old Towne canoe can really bust some ice when
needed!!  The ice is gone now though.  Fish your flies slow in the brackish
water and you will be rewarded.
12/20  It doesn't get much colder than the last 24 hours.  Yours truly was out
in the rain, wind, and cold yesterday.  I was joined by two die hard buds in
pursuit of one of our favorite fish...the pickerel.  I fished a floating line with a
pickerel slider and the other guys fished a 10ft sink tip and a 150 with bunny
pickerel flies.  Every time we found clean water we managed to land a few.
The fish are great quarry for the fly rod.  Stop by the shop for flies and details
on the where and how.  Tight lines all and Happy Holidays!!!!!
2/13  Ooooooof..Man what a weekend!!  Winds howled and rain fell for three
days straight.  I cancelled two trips to the CBBT.  Lucky for me because it
proved to be unfishable.  We had a crew go down on Saturday.  They were
blown off the water within a few hours. I decided spring creek fishing would
provide a good chance to get some pullage.  We traveled up to Beaver Creek
near Hagerstown to take a look at the restoration project.  Kudos to all that
helped out.  This is going to be one heck of a stream in no time at all.
Unfortunately, the water was high and off color.  The conditions made fishing
close to impossible.  I think I lost about 15 flies all told.  We did see a few
other anglers and one fish landed.  It was a beautiful rainbow of about 18
inches.  Good things will come from here very soon.  I hate to say it, but the
upper bay seems to be shutting down for the winter.  I wish I could say it was a
good season...but it wasn't.  Let's hope that next year, the hurricanes leave
us alone, the rain is at least close to normal, and the wind doesn't howl  every
day.
12/3 This is hot of the press....there are still a few decent stripers left in the
tribs of Eastern Bay.  Check deep channel edges in the southern rivers of
ebay.  There are good sized fish holding in and around the schools of white
perch.
